Our Children’s House is…

  • A learning community made up of Casas for children 33 months through Kindergarten.

  • A space where children stay with the same community and teacher for the years they remain at JMS.

    • This allows the teacher, or guide, to know each child's development intimately and provide the ultimate experience while still challenging each child as they strive to reach their personal potential.

  • An extension of the home, providing consistent, nurturing and loving guidance.

    • Our program is offered five days per week to provide the utmost consistency for the children. All the children attend together as a community each day creating a feeling of comfort and sense of "home".

  • A place where children receive presentations on all the scientifically designed Montessori learning materials in the areas of Practical Life, Sensorial, Language and Mathematics in addition to cultural areas such as Geography and Music.

    • These are special "lessons" given to each child individually to honor their own learning style and to protect the opportunity for deep concentration to develop while "working" with the materials. Once a child learns how to do an activity, it is they who are free to invite a friend to join them, become part of a small group or join a collective activity guided by the adult. Children learn how to make choices from what they have been presented, helping them discover what they are truly interested in.

  • A place where children learn "social graces", all of the important lessons in life that deal with respect.

    • First, a child must learn self-respect. Respect for others is greatly honored and lived by in a Montessori environment. Children learn how to move through the room, socialize appropriately and complete activities without interrupting what might be happening for others. They learn to care for the whole community, solve problems, develop a solid sense of well being and become great decision makers while making great strides in their own academic, social and emotional development.
